We are fortunate to have access to some very experienced sonographers that assist us in helping diagnose patients with abdominal disease. Our staff will closely monitor your pet during the procedure and discuss the findings with the sonographers – Dr Karen or Dr Vicki. We will organise a discharge time to discuss the scan and any ongoing treatment or diagnostics required.

Veterinary Sonographer & Internal Medicine Specialist - Dr Karen Hazell
Karen graduated from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science in 1998. She worked in general practice for several years in the United Kingdom and Australia. During this time, she developed a passion for internal medicine. In 2006, Karen embarked on the long journey toward specialist qualifications and was awarded a fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists in Small Animal Medicine in 2013. After many years in a busy specialist hospital, she founded The Pet Ultrasound and Consulting Service and now brings her expertise to veterinary clinics across Brisbane.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Veterinary Science (University of Sydney)
- Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists in Small Animal Medicine

Vicki graduated from the University of Queensland in 1994 with first class honours. After working in small animal practices in Melbourne and the UK, in 2001 Vicki completed a residency in Small Animal Internal Medicine at the University of Melbourne, a Masters of Veterinary Studies, and gained membership to the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists (Small Animal Medicine). Since then, Vicki has worked in referral practices across Melbourne and Brisbane. Her veterinary interests include sonology, small animal emergency and critical care medicine, endocrinology, medical oncology, and pancreatic and hepato-biliary disease.
