Parasite Protection for Dogs

Parasite Protection for Cats

For cats, we recommend Felpreva — a convenient 12-week spot-on treatment. A spot-on is a small tube of liquid applied directly to your cat’s skin (usually at the back of the neck), where it works through the skin and coat to protect against fleas, ticks, and worms.

Why Protection Matters

In our area we have a number of internal and external parasites that can cause serious and potentially deadly diseases:

1. Heartworm

Spread by mosquitoes, heartworms migrate to the heart’s blood vessels, where they mature and cause severe heart disease, potentially leading to death if untreated.

2. Ticks

Paralysis ticks attach to pets and inject a neurotoxin, causing muscle weakness, paralysis, and potentially life-threatening complications like difficulty breathing.

3. Fleas

Fleas cause itching, irritation, and hair loss. They can also transmit diseases and tapeworms, quickly infesting homes if not addressed promptly.

4. Intestinal worms

Parasites such as tapeworm, roundworm, and hookworm can lead to malnutrition, anaemia, and diarrhoea in pets. Some can also be passed to humans, making protection even more critical.
